Iran Will Not Yield to U.S. Nuclear "Bullying," Pezeshkian Says
(MENAFN) Iran's President, Masoud Pezeshkian, declared on Sunday that his nation will never bow to U.S. "bullying" on the nuclear issue, reaffirming Iran's commitment to resist external pressure.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Pezeshkian criticized the U.S. for what he described as "irrational and bullying" actions in response to Iran's pursuit of a just resolution to the nuclear matter. The president's comments were conveyed in a statement posted on the official website of his office.
"We reject and condemn any sanctions or restrictions," Pezeshkian stated. He emphasized that Iran has consistently been open to transparent negotiations aimed at reaching a fair and equitable solution. "The imperious approach adopted by the other side will never be accepted," he added, reaffirming Iran's determination. "We will continue the path of dignity proudly."
The president also reiterated that Iran has never sought nuclear weapons, citing a religious decree issued by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei that explicitly prohibits the development of atomic arms.
"We have always expressed our readiness for rational and fair dialogue based on clear criteria, but we will never acquiesce to a negotiation that entangles us in new problems and issues," Pezeshkian stressed.
In July 2015, Iran entered into the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with world powers, agreeing to limit its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. However, the U.S. withdrew from the agreement in 2018 and reimposed sanctions, prompting Iran to scale back its nuclear commitments.
On September 19, the United Nations (UN) Security Council failed to pass a resolution to extend sanctions relief for Iran under the JCPOA. A subsequent resolution, seeking a six-month extension to both the JCPOA and Resolution 2231, also failed to secure approval on Friday.
