Disruption Hits Canada’s Passport Verification System
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), responsible for border control and customs operations, explained that the malfunction impacted the electronic passport inspection kiosks during what was described as “routine systems maintenance.”
In a statement given to the news agency, CBSA representative Luke Reimer attributed the outage to an “unforeseen technical issue,” assuring that the agency was actively working to reinstate services “as quickly as possible.”
Among the airports most impacted were Toronto’s Pearson International, Montreal’s Trudeau International, and Calgary International, all of which cautioned passengers about increased waiting periods.
Vancouver International also experienced slower processing times, though it maintained that customs procedures continued with only “slightly longer than normal” delays.
The news agency’s report also noted that this incident is not an isolated event; comparable failures of the country’s inspection kiosk system occurred earlier in April and June, similarly resulting in nationwide customs slowdowns.
