Putin Anticipates India Visit
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed on Thursday his eagerness for his upcoming visit to India scheduled for early December.
Speaking to foreign policy specialists during a plenary meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club held in Sochi, Putin emphasized Russia’s intention to rectify the expanding trade imbalance with India.
“I also am looking forward to my trip in early December and I highly await my meeting with my dear friend, with our trustworthy partner, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he remarked warmly.
Responding to a query from foreign policy analyst B.K. Sharma, Putin revealed that he has directed his administration to devise plans aimed at tackling the trade disparity with India, which is primarily influenced by New Delhi’s heavy imports of Russian oil.
Presently, Indian exports to Russia are valued at approximately $5 billion, whereas imports from Russia total about $64 billion.
“We have a trade imbalance with India. We are aware of it. We recognize it and together with our Indian friends and partners, we are thinking of ways to perfect this trade turnover,” Putin stated.
The Russian leader further noted that the current trade relationship does not fully realize its potential.
He pointed out the necessity for both nations to resolve critical matters such as logistics and cross-border payment systems to strengthen their economic cooperation.
