Hamas Refutes Reports of Disarmament Under Ceasefire Proposal
These reports, which emerged earlier in the day from various media platforms citing unnamed sources, claimed that Hamas had accepted to surrender its weapons to a joint Palestinian-Egyptian entity, under international monitoring, and had informed the U.S. of its purported commitment.
In a swift response, Hamas dismissed the reports as “fabricated claims,” emphasizing that any official stance from the group is only expressed through its recognized communication channels.
The group issued a statement asserting, “What was published is baseless and aims to distort the position and confuse public opinion,” signaling strong disapproval of the information presented.
Although Hamas partially acknowledged Trump’s proposal last Friday by expressing willingness to release the remaining Israeli hostages and return the bodies of the deceased, along with transferring control of Gaza to “a Palestinian body of independents,” the statement made no reference to disarmament.
Further clarification came from senior Hamas figure Mousa Abu Marzook during an interview, where he explained that weapons would only be relinquished to a future Palestinian state.
He affirmed that “whoever governs Gaza will have weapons in their hands,” reinforcing that disarmament is conditional and not an immediate option.
